wine philosophy

the philosophy behind our wine lists

South Australia produces 75% of Australia’s premium bottled wine and our list. Whilst our list is predominantly South Australian it lists a respectable selection of old world wines. Importantly our lists represents some very fine examples of old world varietals produced in South Australia by companies with a fascination for introducing classic varietals that prosper in our climate. We are constantly tasting new and interesting wines and write our wine list with the determination that it should have a broad range of prices from modest to indulgent. On our list an inexpensive wine does not mean a bad wine, but rather that we have been able to source a great wine that can be sold for a modest price.

For the indulgent, there is an excellent back vintage selection and a broad selection of sparkling wines and French Champagnes. Single malt and cognac lovers have not been forgotten and our barperson enjoys making classical and exotic cocktails.

Our extensive (currently 24 wines) by–the–glass list is a great way to be introduced to a new varietal, a new winemaker or winery or just enjoy an old favourite. Wines by–the–glass are also an excellent way for overseas visitors to taste a range South Australian wines.

Red Ochre Grill service staff are very experienced and our chefs enjoy the challenge of matching food to wine.
